Wickham & Stodmarsh
Hello and a warm welcome from Wickham and Stodmarsh Cricket Club.
We formed in 1997 when three of us were sitting at the back of Wickhambreaux Village Hall in 1996 getting bored at a church fund raising do and wondering how we could make life more exciting in our small rural "parish"!
So we decided to set up a cricket club.......
We only allow our members to have a very close affiliation to our three small villages of Ickham, Stodmarsh and Wickhambreaux and the two hamlets of Bramling and Seaton. Members need to live, work, or have been educated at the local primary school or in one case bury people in the village; one of our founder members is a local undertaker!
We do not play League cricket but we have a full fixture of at least 20 matches a season and we go on tour to East Anglia each year.
Most of our matches are away as we do not have our own ground but rely on some friendly landlords some 3 miles away at Goodnestone Cricket Club for 5 matches a year. There is also another landlord within walking distance of the ground at The Fitzwalter Arms so the pre and post match needs are also well catered for.
We aim to play against like-minded teams who play their cricket with enthusiasm as we do and a little ability without taking themselves too seriously but still enjoy themselves. We like to play on pretty Kentish grounds not very far away with a good pub (very) nearby to the ground!
We have about 24 playing members and about the same number of very social non playing members.
